Wider Regeneration Issues

The Trust, in being focussed upon the communities of St Anns and Sneinton, is part of a broad array of regeneration programmes and initiatives that operate across both the City and Nationally.

There have been extensive changes in the way regeneration programmes operate at the local and regional level. Locally the emergence of bodies such as Greater Nottingham Partnership and the One City Nottingham Partnership; each having their own strategy documents (Spotlight On Regeneration and the Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy respectively), funding regimes and reporting arrangements has the two-fold impact of increasing funding potential whilst also increasing bureaucracies. Traditional funding routes through Europe and English Partnerships are changing and a level of uncertainty and ambiguity remains about future funding priorities. The Economic Development agenda of emda encompasses a wide variety of initiatives, whilst changes to the operation of landfill tax credits has left many wondering where future 'environmental' finance can be sourced.

Major Redevelopments

Within the Trust area, two 'regionally significant' regeneration zones have been identified by emda; these being Nottingham Eastside and Waterside respectively. Within each of these zones the potential exists to provide wholesale change and improvement for all. However, such redevelopments also pose a risk to those currently employed there. It has been the undertaking of the Trust to ensure that such risks are recognised and that the requirements of existing employers are recognised and accommodated wherever possible through the establishment of a fair and equitable relocation strategy.

Local Area Partnership

As a Local Area Partnership the Trust is actively engaged in the City Wide debate about the future shape and delivery of regeneration activity. As a member of the Strategic Alliance of Local Area Partnership we seek to support and develop the sector, highlighting the value of local accountability and practical delivery in delivering regeneration.
