Outreach Work

New for 2002 - 3 the Outreach Team's purpose is to support both Sure Start St Ann's and Sneinton, targeting priority 'hard to reach' groups. The Team also provides synergy between the wide ranges of projects the Trust gets involved in.

Fathers and Male Carers

To date the Father and Male Carers worker - Eric Atkinson - has successfully engaged with 25 fathers across St Anns. The F.B.I (Fathers, Babies and Infants) group enables fathers to discuss what affects them and their families. The session is regularly attended by external agencies and training providers, delivering: Parenting skills, Fathers recently out of Custody and Fathers United. The coming programme includes: Domestic Violence, Post Natal Depression, Play Development and Community Sports Leaders Award. A Meet and Eat session will start in Early summer at Bluebell Hill Community Centre, targeting healthy meals preparation on a budget with a trained chef.

Asian Outreach

Asian Outreach worker - Samina Raza Sheikh has successfully engaged 37 Asian families in the Sure Start programme. Activities include Parent & Toddler sessions at Greenwood infant school, soft play sessions at Sneinton old school hall and Easter holiday programmes. Consultation with parents resulted in an ESOL course with childcare provided at the Greenway Centre starting in May 2003. Emerging programmes include; Healthy Cooking courses for Asian women at the Hermitage, a Men's Health group which will concentrate on physical exercise and an elderly person's activity group.

Refugees and Asylum Seekers

Increasingly there is a need to provide accessible services for the growing number of local refugee and asylum seeker families. This is a key area of work for the Outreach Team for the forthcoming year.

Youth work

Following the successful summer programme of activity in 2002 and the need for co-ordinated youth work in the area, the Outreach Team has taken an active role in supporting the development of a co-ordinated approach to youth work in the area.
