Brendan Lawrence Sports Hall
The sports barn had been empty and unused after being condemned in Spring 2002 by a City Council Health and Safety Inspector due to its uneven, broken and generally unsafe floor, a result of poor drainage and breached floor liners.
The Trust has pulled out all the stops to raise the £67,000 necessary to fully excavate and relay the wooden sports floor, whilst also increasing the local drainage capacity.
The works contract was awarded in March 2003 to William Woodsend Construction Ltd,
Following this work the Trust obtained a 21-year lease on the Barn and raised in excess of £600K to extend it by providing showers and changing facilities, a meeting room and a dance studio. The extension opened in 2006 and the Sports Hall was renamed the "Brendan Lawrence Sports Hall".
